Acne is a skin disorder most common in teens than in adults. It is usually caused by excessive production of oils commonly associated with increase in hormone levels when your child hits puberty. As parents, you should never ignore this skin disorder. If untreated, it could greatly affect your teenager’s self-confidence. Worse, acne is known to leave scars from the pimples.

Preventing acne should be the first step you should take especially if you have a family history of the condition. Washing the skin at least twice a day would ensure that all dirt and grime are removed. Use only mild soap and water. As much as possible, you should use soap that does not have any harsh ingredients like perfumes or moisturizer. When your teen has a pimple, you must not encourage popping it or else it could become infected.

You should also try over-the-counter medication like Proactiv. These acne treatment solutions contain benzoyl peroxide, which is known to be very effective in killing bacteria. Your teen should apply the treatment before going to bed and make sure that it becomes part of his nightly routine. In addition, ensure that your teen engages in regular physical activity, avoid late nights and eat fiber-rich foods like vegetables. Proactiv Solution

If your teen already has an acne problem, you should try using a mild acne treatment solution for 4-6 weeks. If there is no noticeable improvement, it is definitely time to see a dermatologist.

Helping your teen prevent and treat acne will make him realize how important it is to have good skin. Teaching your teen about good skin hygiene will encourage him to adapt the habit of taking care of his skin until he grows old. It is an important legacy that all parents should leave their children.
