In washing the face try not to use soap and water, instead wash the face using lukewarm water with salt. Wash it twice a day, morning and night. It is believed that salty water that is lukewarm at the same time will not cause the skin to try and in the process eliminates oil as compared to soap which is a drying agent that causes the oil glands to work faster.

You can also make your own facial mask using egg whites that are effective in curing or removing acne. Leave it applied to the face overnight and then wash it as soon as you wake up in the morning. Ice cubes can also be used to lessen inflammation. Before bedtime, apply ice cubes on the parts with acne.

Even your toothpaste (not the gel type) can be used to dry out the acne. Just apply it on the acne before going to sleep at night and then wash it off in the morning. Another home remedy for acne that is effective and popular at the same time is the application of diluted tea tree oil, which should be applied as a topical treatment. It works by killing acne causing bacteria. There are still a lot of home remedies for acne that a person can try using. Acne Cream Treatment

posted on April 11th, 2008 ·

Although not all acne cream treatment works, these creams are best used for acne breakouts that are mild and dependent upon the response of the user’s skin. However, acne cream treatment can also be used to treat severe acne. There a number of prescribed acne creams and over the counter ones that a person with acne can choose from. It is best though that the person studies first what the creams are made up of and how they work before purchasing one.

Over the Counter Acne Creams

Most of the acne cream treatments have benzoyl peroxide as their main component. Examples of popular treatments are: Oxy and Clearasil. It is recommended to use these in small amounts (just like creams with alcohol as their main ingredient) because too high concentration levels of benozyl peroxide would only make things worse because it can make the skin flaky and dry.

If you have a serious acne condition, a prescription acne cream treatment that is more powerful may be the solution. Examples are: Differin (containing adalapene), and Retin A (containing tretinoin), that make skin wrinkle and line free but these have side effects such as scaling, skin burning and sensitivity to the sun as well as dryness.

Natural Acne Treatment

There are also natural treatments developed to help cure one’s acne. Natural supplements containing a lot of minerals and vitamins can be taken orally to improve the condition of the skin. They are to be drunk twice a day and they actually work to detoxify the impurities of the body/skin.

Acne may be hard to cure, but never lose hope as there are a lot of options out there that a person can try. Before buying over the counter acne cream treatments, the advice of a skin expert or dermatologist should be sought first.

Acne Myths

posted on April 10th, 2008 ·

The most common discussions among teens are the myths about acne: causes of acne, how to remove acne, etc. You will be surprised to know that most of the information is untrue. The #1 myth about acne that most people believe in is that greasy food, most especially chocolate can bring you acne. That is why when people develop acne, they would lessen their intake of food high in oil or would really avoid eating chocolates or sweets. Studies show that there is actually no food that is a proven cause of acne, however it also depends on the individual. This just means that if one observes that after eating greasy foods, let’s say, fries, that acne grew on the face, then it is up to the person to stop eating fries for awhile and observe if there is an improvement.

More Myths Surrounding Acne

acne mythsSqueezing pimples is also one of the myths in removing or lessening acne. The truth is, although the squeezed acne would less noticeable, this is only temporary because what actually happens is that the bacteria is pushed deeper into the skin causing more irritation and making the acne stay longer. Not to mention the scars that will remain on the face for a long time, even forever.

Another myth is that if one has acne, one should wash the face more often to get rid of the acne. This is definitely not true. It is recommended that the face is washed only up to two times daily. This is because over washing the skin can cause dryness in the skin, resulting to over active oil glands which in turn cause more acne.

In the event that you have acne, the first thing to do is to consult a dermatologist with the proven ability to give you the right treatment for your acne. It is also very important to have patience because acne treatments don’t really work overnight.

Acne Skin Care and Proactiv

posted on April 9th, 2008 ·

Even if acne disappears, it doesn’t mean that it is totally cured.  A person should still have a “maintenance treatment” to prevent blemishes or new acne from growing.  The acne skin care treatment that is safe to use and can be the answer to this situation is a combination therapy treatment that is embodied by Proactiv.

Proactiv is an acne management treatment—studied and developed by two dermatologists from Stanford, who combined Benzoyl Peroxide, a special ingredient/mixture, and sulfur that all work together in the gentle exfoliation of the skin, fight the bacteria that cause acne, provide relief to skin inflammation, and unclog pores.

Acne Skin CareProactiv has a three step maintenance system (cleanser + lotion + toner) that is said to get rid of blemishes, but at the same time keep new pimples or acne from growing or reappearing.  Here are the steps in using Proactiv: First the user must apply the Proactiv cleanser.  This should be applied twice a day in the morning and at night.   After applying the cleanser, follow with the Proactiv toner to remove excess oil in the face and to even out the skin tone.  The last product to put on is the Proactiv repairing lotion that should be applied to affected areas (blemished).  The lotion should also be used twice a day.

Proactiv has been endorsed by many Hollywood stars like Brooke Shields, Vanessa Williams, Kelly Clarkson, etc.  It is considered as the solution for people whose skins are prone to acne.   Proactiv doesn’t require a prescription from the dermatologist but to be on the safe side, it is good to inform your dermatologist first about any acne treatment product you would like to try.
